Mt. Spokane State Park SAFE from closure
Posted April 27, 2009
Not too long ago, a lot of concern was circulating about the possibility of state park closures in Washington, particularly Mt. Spokane State Park.
The Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission proposed a bill to add an optional $5 to vehicle licensing fees in Washington State in an attempt to help offset the costs of operating the state parks. This bill has been passed by the Senate, to be approved by Governor Gregoire.
The optional fee, in part, should raise the almost $28 million necessary to keep the parks operational. All monies raised will go towards operation and maintenance of the state parks. The bill should take effect in September.
In addition, Washington State House and Senate parties have put together an amended State Parks budget that keeps all parks open and operational.
Regardless, Mt. Spokane State Park is no longer on the cutting board, as the number of parks slated for proposed closure has shrunk significantly. Mt. Spokane State Park, and Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park will remain open as valuable recreational assets to the citizens of the Inland Northwest.
